Welcome to ANZSPR
Paediatric radiologists train for many years. After medical school, internship (1 year) is followed by resident (1-3 years) and registrar training (5 years) to qualify as a radiologist – a specialist in medical imaging. Following qualification as a specialist radiologist, further training, usually 1-2 years, is undertaken as a fellow in paediatric radiology, allowing qualification as a paediatric radiologist. Sometimes, further subspecialisation is performed in areas such paediatric neuroradiology, interventional radiology or nuclear imaging.
Paediatric Radiologists take particular care to combine a caring and reassuring atmosphere for the child and their family with state of the art technology and knowledge. Of particular interest is working with the lowest extremes of ionising radiation to ensure that any risk from x-ray exposure is minimised. The ANZSPR is a member organisation of the Image Gently campaign. There are members of ANZSPR in the imaging departments of childrens hospitals, general hospital and private practices throughout the region.
